In the Frisian village of Ie (Ee), between Dokkum and the Wadden Sea, you'll find our place (farm) dating back to 1815, called Unia Zathe . This is one of the most valuable preserved farms in Friesland (come and take a look inside!). Unia Zathe is beautifully located on top of the high terp in the center of the village, next to the 13th-century Saint Gangulfus Church, and has a rich history. The terp village of Ie has a protected village view and counts 13 monuments. Ie is within a stone's throw of the beautiful eleven-cities town of Dokkum, the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea, the Lauwersmeer area, and the ferry services to Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.
Along the river Ie, there are various beautiful walking, pilgrimage ( direct to the Frisian Forest Path and the Salty Path ) and beautiful cycling routes.
In the center of the village stands the monumental church from the 13th century. Moreover, in Ie you will find the only Flaaksmuseum (flax museum) in the Netherlands, a unique place where the centuries-old craft of flax processing comes to life and you discover how deeply this cultivation is rooted in Frisian culture.
Whether you come for culture, history, or simply to enjoy the silence and character of Northeast Friesland: Ie proves that you can make a lasting impression with few letters.
The environment of Noard East Friesland undoubtedly belongs to the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. Here, vast fields alternate with meandering waterways, old dikes and wide-open vistas. Nearby is the unique Lauwersmeer area, a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and bird watchers. The nearby Wadden Sea coast also gives the (Unesco) area an open, almost un-Dutch sense of space and silence.
From I, you are also surprisingly quickly at sea. Within fifteen minutes you reach Holwert or Lauwersoog, where the ferries depart for a relaxed day on Ameland or Schiermonnikoog. This way, you effortlessly combine the peaceful village life with nature, culture and the island feeling – a rare luxury that makes Noard East Fryslân so special.
